I think it’s less that they became ‘lazy’ and more that they are less interested in game development and more interested in developing other stuff. Hence why they delved into AR and VR and Linux and streaming game boxes.

Except that Valve didn’t/doesn’t really take as large of a cut as you think since they only take a cut if you buy the game directly from their store. Any other method of purchasing the game, despite the fact that the game would still be redeemed and supported by Steam, was free and clear.

Build a glass platform out at that level, however far out you want to protect. It won’t prevent spawns, but the ones that do won’t be able to reach you.
