Are they perhaps also compostable then?
Are they perhaps also compostable then?
As a scientist who has worked closely with MDs, particularly MD/PhDs who are ostensibly scientists who run research labs, the vast majority of MDs, even MD/PhDs, absolutely do suck at science. And it gets worse the further away from actual research that they get. I had an untreated ovarian cyst for 9 months because my…
Same here. My phone is slightly confused though as it thinks “home” is the house behind me. It always suggests that house’s address as my home address when I’m filling out forms. I was confused for a good 9 months though as to where they were getting some random address on a street I never lived on until I figured out…
Any time! I feel like the way science is reported can be so misleading, and in a way it leads to mistrust of science and scientists. I feel like if we, as professionals, did a better job explaining what we actually do, and its limitations!, we would be a lot better off as a society.
This is similar to how many lab results are promoted as “curing cancer” in mice, when that is also extremely misleading. Most cancer research in mice involves xenograft models. The mice typically aren’t developing cancer on their own, but rather your injecting human cancer cells into an immune-deficient mouse. It’s…
The lab I completed my PhD thesis in shared lab meetings with an Alzheimer’s research lab (we were small labs, so this way we didn’t have to presernt every 2 weeks and had a wider range of input on our progress). I don’t remember all the arguments in detail, but the gist is this:
It’s untrue to say Alzheimers has been reversed in mice. Mice don’t even develop the neurodegenerative markers that are a hallmark of Alzheimers even in the “best” models. Drosophila are actually a better animal model for Alzheimers. What mice are best for is immune system modeling.
I can imagine. I have extremely narrow feet. Nikes are one of the few athletic shoes I buy for that very reason. I don’t see how anyone else can wear them though.
Thank you for the advice!
Thanks! My friend’s brother did finally get some help (whether it’s adequate is questionable). I’m still looking for myself. I’ve called all the providers offered on BlueShield’s website for my area, and none are taking any new patients for the next 6-12 months. I’m not in a crisis or anything right now, just current…
I live in the South Bay Area (Palo Alto-ish). I have BlueShield Platinum PPO (so it’s definitely not my insurance; also, my former co-worker was with either Stanford Healthcare and/or Kaiser, so completely different networks with the same issue). I wonder if the dearth of mental healthcare availability may have…
I have excellent insurance and benefits from my employer. However, I still can’t get in to see a mental healthcare provider. I’ve been looking for 2 months and no one that my insurance covers is taking new patients. It has been like this for awhile in my area because a former co-worker was trying to get help for her…
Considering when you drive down I-5 through the Central Valley, you’re inundated with idiot billboards about how CA Congress produced the drought (because obviously they control the weather and climate) and how without the farmers wasting water on crops that have no business being grown in places without regular…
True. I even usually forget to put “PhD” on my business cards, which is a place where the degree should definitely be included.
Kennedy’s son is involved in major business interests with the Trumps (http://www.businessinsider.com/anthony-kennedy-son-loaned-president-trump-over-a-billion-dollars-2018-6)......
Well Kennedy’s son does have major business ties to Trump.....
Mineral sunscreens require more frequent reapplication because they wash off easily from sweat/swimming. Is that a possible factor?
Mineral ones last longer and actually provide better protection...only if they are not washed off by sweat or swimming. The fact that they need more frequent re-application in the heat and the fact they turn you pasty (unless you spend a lot of money for a tinted one) is primarily why they’re less popular.
Lasagna is delicious (it’s what I always have for my birthday since I was a child), and yes it freezes beautifully. However, cottage cheese should never come near it. In fact, I refused to ever let my grandmother or aunt make my birthday lasagna (or eat either of their lasagnas at any time) because they ruins it with…
Because people are too polite.
