Christ, that’s cheesy as hell. That one “feature” completely eradicates this car’s cool factor. Like the car wasn’t enough, so they had to add this extra bit of ego stroking trash.

Must be nice being a celebrity.

I get that batteries are heavy, but if these are the kinds of weight increases we’re looking at then the auto industry is doing something wrong. Being electric doesn’t make these oversized monstrosities any less wasteful than ICE.

By the styling of that time, those cars were as generic and derivative as anything we see today. They certainly didn’t exude style back then any more than modern cars do now. It’s just that they’re relics of the past which convey a unique style by current standards. There’s also the bias that we only ever talk about

Discussion forums are filled with individuals preaching the wonders of crypto like it’s a religion. They’re self-deluded, talking in high-minded ideals, when the reality is that they only care because it’s free money.

Highway development is a complicated beast because ostensibly one of the goals to boost development. However, by doing so population grows which leads to those traffic increases.

I don’t understand why automakers need to infuse everything with marketing bullshit. For decades, FX departments and audio engineers have been creating sound effects for fantasy vehicles of all kinds. It shouldn’t be this hard.

Solterra sounds like the word for “bachelor” in Portuguese. I think it’s even more similar in Spanish. The name is stupid enough in English, but the fact that it reminds me of something else makes it even worse.

Keep deluding yourself. There are probably more manuals per capita in high crime areas than anywhere else. If a model was offered with a manual and it’s relatively cheap, you’ll find most of them in these neighborhoods. So there’s no shortage of people who know how to drive manuals.

The fact is that China doesn’t have 3000+ years of contiguous civilization; that’s revisionist history. Their actual history is more like Europe’s where most nations have roots that go back to Roman times but you can’t call them one and the same. What China does would be like the equivalent of EU calling themselves

It technically wasn’t mine, but it was the first car I drove regularly; a VW Quantum. As typical of German cars, it was a parade of annoying issues, some of which rendered the car undriveable. One of the more ridiculous incidents was the horn’s contact plate somehow lifting and getting tangled up with the steering

Meh... Looks like most other SUVs on the market. Interior is pretty nice, except for the goofy red seats.

This is an example of how much car culture can suck. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Tesla with the driver in the backseat or a Civic with a fart can speeding up residential streets, stupid assholes ruin everything.

Taiwan has been doing this sort of thing for years. Snap a picture of an incident, it could be for things other than traffic violations, and submit it to the cops. If it’s deemed legitimate the cops will issue a fine. There’s a whole app-based system and you even get a small reward. My brother-in-law got a ticket v

With the exception of the Astro, none of these are as bad as I expected. They’re not great by modern standards, but they’re not terrible either. It’s clear there were generational improvement over cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

American management constantly demonstrate their incompetence so I have no reason to believe they’re making smart decisions this time around. Short term profitability doesn’t mean they haven’t set themselves up for failure in the long term.

The only way you see a meaningful gain in economy is to go for a hybrid.

I don’t see how the Higlander is any more boring than these two. They both look like Suburbans with different running lights.

Meh... I wouldn’t call the most recent designs redemption. They’re not ugly, but they’re not particularly compelling either. Hell, I’d argue 80s Camaros, despite some negative associations, were more interesting designs.

The exterior design is growing on me and the interior is really nice. However, they don’t look like they belong on the same car. The interior has an 80s retro vibe that isn’t matched by the exterior at all. If, instead of looking like a modern Audi A3, the new Civic looked like the Honda e, it would be a perfect fit.
