Everyone is forgetting that the Marvel movies have been pulling heavily from the Ultimates series. It could be that these are the Chitauri. Basically the Ultimates version of the Skrulls. They are probably using the Chitauri since they cannot use the Skrulls because the rights are owned by Sony.
