I'm so tired of "SOME" so called feminist on this site being so dismissive of racism. If some frat boy wrote some dude-bro pick up artist manifesto with rape culture undertones I highly doubt that the women on this site would be so forgiving just because he wrote some generic apology. WTF is so freaking sincere about

As white people, we need to get over our knee jerk reaction to insert ourselves into everything. "But I'm gay, and I am oppressed." "But I'm female, and I am oppressed too!" "I'm Jewish, we have a long history of oppression!"

You just don't get. To be honest I don't think you want to get it. So I don't know why I'm butting in. Racism is a system of oppression which is embedded in our institutions - schools, health care, housing, laws, etc. White people use racism - the system- to deny and deprive black people of their rights.

I think for the first time here, some white people are being lumped together and identified as something they don't identify with, and are offended by it. What is fascinating to me is how offended I was at first, as well as how offended some commenters were, despite the fact that so often minorities are assigned

Here's the issue - and this isn't to say I'm not sorry for your LGBTQ troubles because that struggle is real too - we aren't talking about you and your struggles. We were talking about racism and the experience of black people in a white supremacist world. Then you started talking about yourself. That's a problem.

Oh just stop. Did you really think she believed all white people are the same? No, you didn't. You weren't seeking to clarify an error. You knew she wasn't literally talking about all white people, but you just wanted to make sure your voice was heard and your identity as a non-racist was recognized so you responded

So here's what I have learned: To prove that we are not all the same, we need to just shut the fuck up and listen. Respond when necessary, but most of all, just shut the fuck up and listen.

Whiteness and white supremacy is an institution. One that you're a part of whether you like it or not. When we talk about "white people" we're talking about the institution of whiteness upon which racism stands.

In the same way people say stuff like "Ugh, banks are thieving scum bags" and it's a given that we're not

No, no, it's ok. OP didn't intend for the language to be broad, therefore it isn't. That's how it works, and if you feel that intentions aren't as important as the message received, it's because you're just oversensitive. That's what I've learned from reading Gawker comments on this Orange is the New Blackface story.

I love how your take away from this well written post is, "won't someone think of the WHITE PEOPLE?!?!"

Oh yes, intent. That magical thing that makes offensive crap not offensive anymore!

People are very into this idea that if they didn't mean for the racist thing they did to be racist, that ameliorates it. I'm not sure why.

If you go to the party website. The points that I listed are there and are spelled out in no uncertain terms. So Girl bye.

I got a call this afternoon from my mom. She told me that my brother shot himself and died today in his garage. He was 39 and had a wife and 3 kids, his youngest born just this summer. I'm 41. He was my only sibling and my dad died 8 years ago, so it's just me and my mom left from my family. I talked to him at least

Well, my mom died yesterday. Driving to work, the kid coming the other way around a curb too fast slid into her lane and hit her head on. Allegedly she died instantly but that might just be a lie people are telling us to make this easier.

Nailed it. I was coming here to say that she absolutely has to know that this will make people go batshitcrazy, that this will get her name all over every blog everywhere. Her name is going to be on every morning talk show and that will get her booked on some shows explaining how 'devastated' she was by all the

I loved having my dad walk me down the aisle for my wedding. But we didn't have the "who gives this woman" crap - because I am not a piece of property to be handed from one man (or even both my parents) to another man. I am the only daughter and I think it meant a lot to my dad too.

I bet Kanye never lets her finish...
