was gonna post this if someone else didn't. Perfect example of a series that doesn't just spoon feed the reader.... You are dumped into the middle of a story that's been running for millennia... It's my favorite fantasy series for exactly that reason. The reader MUST let go their tropes and farm boy entry characters…

The Malazan Book of the Fallen series doesn't understand the idea of "deep end". THE ENTIRE POOL IS 40 FEET DOWN AND FILLED WITH DELICIOUS DELICIOUS FANTASY.
Malazan books. Takes a couple books to even begin to understand the world, but so worth it.
