Part of what I like in some games is reaching the point where things look after themselves, like when you put down pressure plates so doors open themselves, or a powered minecart to transport you and a chest to another location.

If I paid for their service like XBL, then yes. But Sony has provided me with years of free multiplayer service, and only recently (as I recall) has there been an outage this serious.
