I went through this phase when I was a teenager, too. I think those of us who are raised without religion sometimes need to explore it, just to see what it's like and make sure it's not for us. I don't think it's necessarily anything more than that.

The most important thing I took away from the NYT article is that James Deen is professional and talented and should be in more movies.
Unpaid internships for for-profit companies are illegal under the Fair Labor Standards Act. There is a very good reason for this. Companies often exploit people's desperation in hard times like this economy. Also, unpaid internships give wealthy people career advantages over those who can't afford to go without wages…
My understanding was that she was talking only about people who say they will never want kids. "You don't know what your life will be like in ten years. You have no idea. Today, you don't want children. End of conversation." That's the part I was agreeing with. Of course I agree with you though that people in their…
"I want kids" is different from "it's impossible for me to not want kids in the future." People usually are skeptical about statements like that. I often remind people of future situations where they might not want children in discussions with anti-choicers.
This is a good point and not an anti-feminist thing to say. It is simply immature for anyone to believe that they cannot change their mind about something. There is no need to talk about wanting or not wanting kids like it's an immutable fact of life. No one talks about anything else in these kinds of absolutes.
Yes, I'm sure it's just that white people want to be actors more than other groups of people ;)
Obviously, the larger trend of whitewashing exists despite a few important steps in the right direction. Is racism gone forever in the US because we have a black president? (No.) It's also important to note a few things about that list: those are all black actors, and other groups are still terribly underrepresented,…
I am so done with Hollywood whitewashing every single character in existence. This is disgusting. How are these casting choices acceptable to anyone?
Storm from the Elizabeth: The Golden Age Soundtrack. I edited my first comment with it too.
No, it's Elegy by Lisa Gerrard and Patrick Cassidy from the album Immortal Memory.
Thanks for an article that tears down some atheist straw men.
Being an atheist doesn't mean you believe that God has been disproven. Obviously most atheists recognize that that's not the case.
Not only is it better to say "humankind" because it's gender-neutral, but "mankind" and "man" sound way too melodramatic.Who can stand to hear lines like, "since the dawn of man...?"
In 2088 cars will not have steering wheels... they will drive themselves!
Yes, of course everything you say is true. But the concern in this article and in the book I mentioned is that we are in this transition period, where there might not be enough places left to "dive deep" to employ everyone. Those places are going to run out eventually. So we may be reaching a situation where people…
Imagine a scenario with advanced robots that can do everything humans can do, only better. There will be no "bigger projects" to move to. This is the direction we're heading in. It's not a question of "if," but "when." The assembly line is nothing like what we are talking about now.
Raven is my #1, with Pandora, Manila, and Juju tied for second. I cannot WAIT for this to start!
Pandora won, not Mimi. But Mimi got a suspiciously high number of votes in a very short amount of time.
It's a fact that 3d printers can print guns and will only get better at making them. Understanding guns better doesn't change this fact.
