I do corporate tax in a company, and I am the only tax person in a team of accountants who all need to work collaboratively. They do this by shouting across the room to each other (!!). We had a spare office and I begged for the empty room for three years. The boss finally “gifted” it to me last year.

Except don’t make the bed because > bedbugs.

Nah - the food on Air NZ is practically gourmet. It is really nice!

I am far too cheap for that - the flight from NZ is long and expensive. I am eating that food! I do avoid alcohol, though.

A better, lower fat substitute is applesauce.

The Roman Empire story just shows that humans are the worst, and always have been. :-/

Rowing machines are great! If you go to Concept2's (rower brand) website, they have a place where you can sign up for daily workout suggestions. I wrote down my favorites and alternate depending on how I feel that day.

Plus, studies (of bedbugs) show it is healthier not to make the bed...

Probably why it is so inexpensive to go at that time of year! ;)

I live in New Zealand - no way can I wait until only 6 weeks out to plan a holiday!

Same - have been in corporate for over 12 years now. Although...I did have to sort out some hairy deferred tax issues earlier this year. It was kind of a boost to know I could still work 18 hour days in my 40s, even though it was “only” for two weeks. :)

When I started my career as a tax accountant, I learned to email my family and friends at the beginning of tax season (January), explain that I would be working insane hours and that I’d be out of touch until April 15th. It was a good reminder to and took the pressure off of me to during an incredibly busy time.

Yes! This is me too! Unfortunately, we are required to be at work at 7am (and I don’t drink coffee). Those first three hours are NOT my friend.

Peter Thiel didn’t post someone’s sex tape on the internet. Gawker did. Thiel paid for the man who was wronged to sue (and rightly win).

Icebreaker has great, colorful work socks!

The saddest thing about Gawker closing is that they still won’t admit to the mistake that started the mess in the first place. Stop blaming the man who funded the legitimate lawsuit and just apologise.

I find it hilarious that this story is listed under “Pictorial” and yet has no pictures.

So, not free, but inexpensive: I had my bridal bouquet done by my local grocery store. It was stunning (random wildflowers) and far less expensive than an independent florist shop.

Bah. The low minimum wage for servers was a result of prohibition. It is outdated and discriminatory. Some servers may make more, but most? No. Mandatory/expected tipping should be abolished. Why America wants to beso backwards, I just don’t know.

Fair enough. Many countries with one “sales tax” percentage (i.e. GST, VAT) already includes that in the price of each item. It’s certainly something restaurants can do in the US, they just haven’t.
