Tales of Symphonia and its sequel are prequels to Tales of Phantasia. Otherwise the only games that are connected are ones that have the same title with numbers (eg Xillia and Xillia 2). That's the funny thing; people often complain about how ridiculous parts of a fantasy setting are when reality is often stranger than fiction. It's just a bit silly.

Nice! I always thought the gunblades were kind of cool. Absolutely impractical (no actual open barrel for the projectile to exit from), but hey...it's fantasy. Can't hold it against the game, it's quite literally in the title.

I would assume that giving Sony 'final say' is just a way for Sony to keep a level of control over the character - control that they won't really use nor need. It's to protect themselves against Disney doing something really weird with the character or the story lines that will have a major impact on their own ability
