Yeah I have a relative who may or may not have been in the SS. Ser gut nicht.

Seriously. With the exception of her mother, her family were awful especially the dad, and I thought Jeff Turner was a douche. I never quite understood how they fell in love. And Joanna was tricky, she was rather stupid and a major snob (plus committing the major sin of being obese) but again she was a woman in 1840's

Dragonwyck is one of my favorite books ever. I discovered my grandmothers mass market paperback from the early 60's when I was about 12 or 13 and was hooked. Anya Seton took the time to get the historical details right and describe the clothes and food in fascinating detail. I did hate though, and still do hate, that

I was about 11 I think. I was skating in front of the house in shorts (summer vacation) and this army convoy passing by had a wonderful time yelling what they'd love to do to me. I wasn't afraid, just sort of bemused. But I did go into the house until the convoy passed.

This is an April Fool's joke right? Clearly they'd never been to a Springsteen show before, or heard about them for that matter.

I have my own business under the umbrella of a larger company. Recently I got new clients and I'd been advising them regarding a business transaction. And they kept ignoring my suggestions until it blew up. As they're new, I can't say for sure that they ignored me due to gender but it's a safe bet. I had to go to

Women are ignored and talked down to? Nonsense, you're just being hysterical!

But Pirates are fun!

Female war criminals were not prosecuted at the level male war criminals were but it did happen. The book Hitler's Furies discusses atrocities committed by women (mostly in the East).

I was just going to post about that film. Some consider it the most disturbing war film ever made. They may be right. And if anyone has the stomach read about the Dirlewanger Brigade's exploits during the Warsaw Uprising. Well I guess that's what happens when you have criminals and the insane under the command of

Yeah but he likes a nice pair of slacks, which is totally mitigating factor.

I'm so happy for her. I just hope she gets sound financial planning advice, big lottery winners often don't get happy endings so I hope her case is different.

I'd love to see the close captioning. "Woof." "Grr."

I think this is one of those hard lessons for younger attractive women. Most of a young woman's value is still put on her appearance, and when she uses that to her advantage then she seems to become devalued even more and is truly considered just an object. Especially as you say by these rich, old misogynists. I

Pedant away. I first heard it from the teacher so though I later learned it originated with Voltaire, I still give Mr. Becker credit for telling it to our class but not for the origination of the comment.

Yes because the teacher was too stupid to wait one damn day.

As far as I'm concerned if it's any kind of high school student (male or female) with a teacher it's gross. Simply due to the power imbalance. A 17 year old sleeping with a teacher is a bit less gross than say a 13/14 year old but it's still gross. The teacher is in a position of power and is the adult so it's not

I see tourists of all nationalities doing deeply stupid stuff, but we Americans seem to do it louder than everyone else.

Perhaps it's just me but on the three occasions I've been to the Anne Frank Huis at no point did I think: "Let me get my tits out!"

Really? I wish someone had thrown her fanfic under the bus before someone published the damn thing. I read like two pages from a friend's copy and lost IQ points.
