The name has EVERYTHING to do with the failure of the WiiU. Most consumers (especially parents) don't see it as a new console. They see it as an accessory, and ultimately see it as unnecessary.
the name is precisely the problem. Nintendo should have called the WiiU the Wii 2 or something completely different from the Wii branding. the PS Vita is suffering from the same problem.

Basically, someone once took it upon themselves to glorify some of the more... exotic posts on YouTube videos about game reveals. First gameplay vids, trailers, etc. Make them look like motivational posters or whatnot.
