Yep, the car didn't dig in and the grass field had nothing solid that would catch the car and flip it.

Damn, I wish I could see a pic of such a W12 'conversion' :D
Hahaha, that crashed car still in the race was epic.
... somehow reminds me of driving in GTA...
This was a really insightful post into commuter trains. Enjoyed reading your posts. Thank you :)
That flip in slow motion was just... epic! Did he just continue driving off after?
Considering how obvious it is to note that the drag of the derailed carriage digging into the ground would derail the rescue engines....
I don't think they even know the danger of the tensioned tow cable!
Yeah! They should watch more Thomas the Tank Engine down there :)
In the subject video it's kind of obvious the drag from the overturned carriage plus it digging into the ground would pull the rescue train off the track.
I definitely agree that car guys and girls are the most fun people to hang out with. A common interest in all things driving or auto-related makes icebreaking (or even problem solving) really easy because of that common background as fellow drivers or enthusiasts.
My current love interest (and business owner)…
Redneck logic or not it should be apparent to everyone in a 200 yard radius that their efforts are futile. The tree is not even bothered to acknowledge their puny efforts.
Agreed. I learned that a long time ago making my own videos. Brevity is a virtue.
The car sacrificed the dignity of a closed bonnet to shield its master from shame. How sweet of that little Civic...
Great film. And those were the days before CGI so... was it driven by a real stunt driver on a plan to conduct a 'controlled disintegration'?
That takes serious balls...
I was challenged by a friend to play ABF (Angry Birds: Friends) last night and one of the best tactics to get the top scores was to get a heavy or fast bird to 'shear off' the corner of the structure, sending it crashing down into a chasm!
Then popped on Jalopnik and went... "Oh my."
I do exactly that in Grand Theft Auto every time I steal a fire truck.
It's hilarious fun.
The Pigs in Angry Birds could build stronger building corners than this...
I am no civil engineer but shouldn't the corners of the building be made the strongest so as to prevent this kind of 'shearing off' from an accident?
Whoa omg, I didn't know it was that serious!
But that said although it would probably get me slaughtered GTA-style I would love to visit Russia one day. Russian is one of my top languages and cultures :D

A fan from the wrong side of the world :D
Dynomite. Haha that cracked me up.
My I never thought the dyno flywheel would hold this much destructive energy. Hell yeah it should be obvious from the physics standpoint but OMG! I didn't expect that explosion.
Thanks for your kind analysis of the mechanical systems involved and the safety tips. I will keep in mind to stay clear of the projected shrapnel area if I ever get to watch such a thing live :)
That looked very cool on the first two attempts, even if a bit scary for the 'recipient' of the move.
The third one I totally did not expect the reaction force of that slight-looking impact lead to the 240 crashing into the cop car.
