Is part of the problem also an obsession with scripted sequences? That's what I took away from the 'shoot the hinges' idea. It wouldn't be such a big deal if ALL hinges could be shot.

Also, it's not JUST the linearity that's the issue. I realise older games could be linear as well. Perhaps the bigger issue is the pacing THROUGH those linear spaces.

I still do not understand why people want a Pokemon MMO so badly. I can see elements of MMOs being a worthwhile addition to a Pokemon game (a more open world where you could possibly meet other players in-game), but a full-on MMO? That does not seem like a good evolution of this franchise to me.
