Lower the stakes. Stop having the fate of humanity in danger, maybe just a town, or a neighbourhood, or a family. Stop trying to one-up the last super-duper mega-movie, just make something we can connect with on multiple levels. Make it fun, thrilling, with characters we care about. And take a few risks now and then.
