Loved this interview, thanks Patrick/Rowan. One of the more enlightened conversations about tennis i’ve read in a long time!

i’ll grant you that his rise to number 1 is a singular achievement, especially considering he had to go out and take it from Djokovic at the end of the year. but again, and not to pile on, putting Murray in the class of the other three sort of diminishes all 4 of the guys if that makes sense. hear me out...

also completely agreed that there is a pre- and post- 2012 Wimbledon Andy Murray for me and i’d have to think tennis fans everywhere.  i joined his team, even after totally rooting for Roger throughout the match.

Andy Murray was a sort of tortured genius, without the ‘genius’ - at least as far as we usually understand the term. i’ve never really cared for his game, the grinding, running, back-boarding consistency type. the type of game that Novak Djokovic has perfected to the detriment of a discernible ‘style’. the type that

this isn’t really a ringing endorsement though is it? i also am a fan of Bloomberg,  but the problematic policies laid out in the article you posted are no joke - at their worst, they reveal a guy who was willfully out of touch with most of the citizens of NYC. setting aside the sexual harassment issues (i kind of

whether or not the call was ‘correct’, you agree that there isn’t clear evidence either way. it’s when the rulebook defaults to ‘the call on the field’ that I think MLB has it wrong.

fucking awesome

happy birthday Serap, adventures like yours are what inspired me to learn mountaineering at the National Outdoor Leadership School. i have enormous respect for your achievements in climbing, and wish you the best on your latest adventure here in the US.

this is great Giri. i like to think of tennis, when appropriate, in boxing terms. in boxing they say ‘styles make fights.’ clearly this applies in tennis matches: with Roger and Rafa you have an almost perfectly asymmetrical pair of players in both playing style and personality; but with Novak and Rafa you have

his constant self-encouragement/congratulation feels like an affect from some serious sports psychology therapy sessions.  it’s also VERY annoying, if i was playing him i’d be unable to contain my rage.

he stole it from Eli, he tweeted that 12 hours ago

god i love that band

i’d proffer that Peter Cetera is the reason Chicago started sucking. with all due respect the rest of the band, Cetera is the most limp-dicked ‘frontman’ this side of Dennis DeYoung.

this is great

i’m pointing out that there is a difference between the craven, transparently opportunistic brand of conservative politician we’ve become used to over the last couple of decades and the more moderate version who believes that the federal government is too big and expensive (just for example).

i have indeed been paying attention.

agreed in part, but it should be noted that there is considerable diversity of conservative opinion on many issues (including family planning) - just like there is on the left. the conservatives you are generalizing do exist, but they are a constituent part of a larger and more moderate whole.
