Because you have to be standing on top of an item to loot it. Previous Dragon Age games let you click on loot and your toon would walk over and get it.

I have the Dell XPS 27... and while it does have a touch screen, I don't use it that way because I don't want fingerprints mucking up that AMAZEBALLS screen :p
