Idolize? There's a reason they're "fans". Oda's been bashed (even by fans) about how repetitive his arcs were. Some arcs were good, some were bad, but overall people still like to read his manga because he makes up for it.

It wasn't before and people were complaining they were all one-patterned (which some were). He's taking a more complex approach and it seems to be picking up well.
