Miyazaki clearly stated this is a new approach and not really for children.
As much as we like Miyazaki's fantasy touch, a more reality based film sounds interesting. Just because it's a animation doesn't mean it's for kids.

The Japanese Ad is to catch attention and curiosity for those who don't know what pikmin is. In Japan, A LOT of people already know what Pikmin is. Even if they don't, this Ad encourages them to find out. Doesn't have to say much really and is not meaningless. More like "Hey guys, Pikmin 3 is out. Wanna come check it…

Japan is definitely one of the pickiest country in Asia (judging from critiques, comments etc) but again that is probably why "Made In Japan" is highly praised.

Try adding your typical epic music to this anime and you've got one that is just like the others.

It's true most in the West prefer FF to DQ, pace-wise at least.

Music / Sound is VERY subjective, so that was a bad example. Those are the only products I do not rely on reviews. Big Jambox is a good example. It has all the best reviews in the world, but when I tried it out once I was left with a big question mark. Maybe it does sound good at the size but I just didn't like it.
