In Sony and Microsoft’s eyes its a battle between them and Nintendo is a complete non-factor. For the most part the public believes this too.

I don’t see how that sales analyst could possibly view that as shocking data. Consumers have always gone with a known product over an unknown one until either the known product becomes demonstrably worst than it was or the unknown product becomes known for being better than the old one.

Selling less than a Million copies is pretty much impossible. That game easily has 6+ Million (probably a lot more) people who will likely buy it and maybe 1/6th of those know this situation (most gamers don’t read game blogs) and who knows how many of those that do know have the willpower to not buy the game.
