I actually got it wrong, I didn’t mean the SZ2 (obviously, because that’s gorgeous), I meant the series 3 et 4 Spider with the cut-off rear end in black plastic, by which time I think the original design had become fairly ruined by safety regulations. Turns out the coda tronca is the series 2, and it’s still pretty.

They would have made it RWD if they had been able to, but they had Fiat to answer to... They made it pretty clear right after they bought Alfa that it would be FWD Fiat platforms from then on. Didn’t stop Alfa from making some pretty good cars anyway.

You’ll be happy to know the 916 GTV and Spider weren’t even available with automatic transmissions.

You’re not doing it any favours by showing a phase 1 Spider in probably the ugliest colour. Now, a phase 2 coupé in red for example... Oh yes.

I have never read anything that held the Brera Spider in higher regard than the 916. Yes, the Brera is prettier, but it’s also heavy as the Colosseum and has General Motors engines in place of the V6 Busso and Twin Spark.

Is that a problem? It’s a clever way to offer pretty retro looks with modern bits.

That was inevitable considering the previous model was a relic from the 1960ies...

I don’t like the 916 Spider very much, but I think the GTV is up there with some of the most beautiful Alfas ever. It’s no Duetto, but it’s a hell of a lot better looking than a coda tronca.

Will you people stop talking about the 916 GTV/Spider?? I want one someday and prices aren’t going to stay down if you keep giving people ideas. Shut up!
