The last 1/4 of season one was the only thing that saved UA for me. I got bored real quick with the dysfunctional Hargreaves siblings dynamics. However, I did emphasize with Vanya. The “Dark Phoenix” type story worked better than 2 failed tries in the X-Men films.

I managed to squeeze in 7 episodes after a late day last night. Had to stop because I wanted 6 hours of sleep before work.

what it didn’t have going for it was a particularly strong grasp on plot and pacing.”

Some of the cast did a livestream chat during the episode premiere and they talked about how Elizabeth knocked out her breakdown scene in two takes. She apparently hopped in there, said “action”, absolutely melted down, got through the take, sniffily said “cut”, then reset and DID IT AGAIN.

This was a fantastic episode, and in retrospect might explain why last week’s was so over-the-top silly: it’s a good idea to let the audience breathe bef0re you start in with the heavy stuff.

They set up “the Cavalry” backstory right away in season one. They knew they would get there eventually. Plus Season One May kicks a lot of ass.

Jemma is the show’s sweetest character & always has the darkest and most tragic storylines, which obviously is brutally unfair. And yet Elizabeth Henstridge always makes it work so beautifully that I can’t entirely hate the show for it

The difference is that Daisy already knows that Sousa has an interest in her from what he said in the past loops. And if he wasn’t up for the kiss she probably would have stopped.

Greatest post I have seen on the matter. Everything you said was spot on especially about peoples expectations after the Avengers high.

Firstly well done Elizabeth. A fantastically directed episode.

You don’t make robot friends so they die. I just really dislike those ‘robot dies forever because I took batteries out’ storylines. He could’ve been uploaded like Sibyl and Phil. Or something. Bring him back!

“If you die you forget what you learned” was a nice little update to the rules of the genre that added some stakes without changing the basic format.

poor Deke spent literal years building a new SHIELD team, looked after two Macks of different ages who were both grieving, and built a dope-ass chrome shotgun-axe and he still gets no respect from this team! I’d almost be upset but the line was so goddamn funny

I just started rewatching it about a week or two ago, and am already whizzing through Season 3. And I’m genuinely surprised by how consistently good it was even throughout Season 1. I watched it when it premiered, and got bored about four episodes in and didn’t come back until Season 3. I never really disliked Season

Legends of Tomorrow’s “Here I go Again” to me is still the best time loop episode

Poor Deke

“Phlebotinum” is a term invented in the Buffy writers room by David Greenwalt. So, this is a Whedon family callback.

I just think it’s weird you need to be awake for this.

“So Deke’s dead right?”

I’ve said previously that the best eps have had Elizabeth Henstridge at their center, and with this ep being her directorial debut, that streak continues. I expected wacky hi-jinks, and we got some of that, but we got so much more. R.I.P. Enoch.
