Um... very, very few open floor plans do not have doors on the bedrooms. It typically just means the living room, dining room, and kitchen are not separated by full height walls and doors.

Right? These anti-open floor plan people act like that means a one story house with zero walls. Very weird. If they have no space to get away then they just need to find a place with +1 bedroom that they can use as a study or TV/game room.

Bookshelves?? No. Bookshelves lead to tchotchkes aka clutter. Also, people tend to overdo it on the “art” and pictures. A lack of walls just does them a favor. Remember: less is more.

Now, we have an open floor plan, and even though it’s similar square footage, we can actually have parties.

You can have your cake and eat it, too. Get a multi-floor house. Open floor plan for the living area is optimal for parties. Alternate floor is optimal when you want to get away from the dishwasher or whatever.
