For people who say, "well, schools aren't required to hold proms, so why is the ACLU suing?" Another way to look at this is, this school is hosting a prom every year except the one year a same-sex couple wants to attend. That they found more people to turn away at the same time doesn't make it any less discriminatory.

@Penny: If every kid risked their own lives for civil rights like Ms. McMillen did here, they'd all be better off, scholarship or not.

@keldo: She did receive and reject offers to go to a separate, privately hosted prom. That's not what she's fighting for here. She is fighting because the school first tried to discriminate against her in an event, then tried to cancel the event altogether. If she lets the school weasel out of it, then they win.

To clarify things:

See, this is why you shouldn't do drugs: You wind up putting the baby in the oven without even turning it on. And even if you turned it on, you'd wind up falling asleep anyway and the baby would've been too burnt to eat when you wake up.

@slcour: The lord giveth, and the lord dippeth your gift in some crabs-infested stink pie when your back is turned.

I've seen a lot of jealousy directed at child stars, or really, young people who are unusually successful in any way. People will bitch that they haven't paid their dues, don't deserve the success with the unspoken bit being "they make me feel like an underachiever". This hostility naturally turns into schadenfreude

I find the video deliriously delightful. It had me completely when Gaga starts making out with the female Steve Buscemi in cigarette shades. Then, Beyonce feeding Gaga a twinkie! Let's make a sandwich! By the time they were dancing around a diner full of corpses, I was laughing and laughing. I was too busy enjoying it

@KatrinaBullfinch: It was called The C Word at one point in development, and I thought that was a far better name. But then, I am a twat.

Finally, Wizard of Oz in 3D! It's not a real movie unless it's in 3D, so can we even call it a remake? More like a completely original take on a story that has never been done proper dimensional justice on screen!

Clicky for high rez pic of Klein Bottle dress, where the outside is inside is outside. And more than just a topographic curiosity, it's also beautiful.

It's worse than just a name change and retooling a movie. If you read the article, Disney is shelving future cartoons with female leads, all this because The Princess and the Frog didn't make the assloads of money they thought it should. Instead of blaming the fact that the Frog movie had a dated look (hand-drawn

It has to be mentioned that Barbra Streisand was glaringly snubbed for even a nomination for directing the otherwise critically acclaimed and award-pillaging film The Prince of Tides. It was not a coincidence that the academy chose her to present this award as a small gesture of mea culpa.

Why did ABC feel the need to announce its Cablevision deal on my non-Cablevision feed? Save that crap for them, and Twitter. Scrolling alerts should be reserved for shit of actual magnitude, nothing less than the nuking of an American city (except Detroit) calls for it.

Neil Patrick Harris has outworn his welcome... again. Time to send this gelding back to the pasture for child stars.

Now playing

Tsk. Alanis should've sang "So Pure". It's much more of a party song, plus the lyrics fit everything from the ice skaters to the freestyle skiers to the snowboarders. The whole song is a celebration of free and beautiful movement, it'd have been perfect!

@Kateness has the skin of a KILLER: Skating blades are actually not all that sharp. As long as she avoids jamming the sharper ends on him, he should be ok, even though he probably has a permanent bruise there.

@CrankyOldBroad: Oh, I had a feeling they were related. But the caption on the photo said they were "members of the crowd". I blame Reuters!

@femme-feminista: While I prefer Virtue/Moir (though I do love Davis/White), you're definitely not the only one! In fact, all season long, Davis/White have been getting higher scores than Virtue/Moir and beat them in their one head-to-head competition before the Olympics. The difference actually all came down to the
