I thought it was some phone holder tray that you would pan over your notebook, scanning & digitizing all your handwritten notes. It could then also act as a digital highlighter if you ran it over your textbooks. THAT would be cool.

I agree. While it may have been hand-done, it totally looks like it could have been done digitally, especially the framework.
