Right. If anything propaganda in video games is just as effective as on TV/movies, if not more. The US Army capitalized on this through their recruitment measures and pushed it by having their own games made. Why this works because it creates an easy “Us VS Them” narrative that is very effective on people living

Grand Theft Auto has always been a wide open sandbox with a deliberately tongue in cheek vibe in a setting that’s distinctly a little unreal - where almost every civilian has a gag and/or is a stereotype if they get a few lines of dialogue, and where the characters are basically superhuman and living in a world where

Ah, a straggler from the Jack Thompson crusade. Well, I’ll be delighted to fill you in: Violent video games don’t cause violence, bad environments do. When it comes to the recent ‘trend’ of anti-protesters running people over in their cars, it’s probably because they’re not being held accountable for their actions,

Or maybe, said takes are from people from other countries that marvel and the mental gymnastics you americans perform in order to defend your right to bear arms in the face of constant death in your home turf. Just maybe

I do know all that, but, as I said, I enjoyed the first two episodes of Yeoh playing a good captain so much, I really wanted that character to stick around awhile. I enjoyed the evil mirror captain too, but imo that switch would have been far more shocking and satisfying if the audience had spent a season or two with

What actually infuriates me, though, is that they brought in Dominic Monaghan to take away what little part could have gone to Rose (or even Billie Lourd’s character). That left a VERY bad taste in my mouth when watching it.

Honestly, it feels The Rise of Skywalker gave me some semblance of peace. Not because I liked it, of course, I hated it, but because it broke me out having to care about Star Wars and its fans.

My wishful thinking when I originally heard the rumor about Rey being a Skywalker is that the movie was going to make gray force users (who sit between light and dark) be “Skywalker”-s. Just as kind of an honorific of those who came before and paved the way. And thus Rey mastered the ability of both light and dark and

I think Solo also suffers from some of this, to a lesser extent, tbh.

Yes, I can think of a lot of movies or shows that would have been enhanced  by Yeoh’s addition. And I really hated the fact she was killed off on Star Trek: Discovery after just two episodes. Even with that brief stint, she’s still one of my favorite captains in the Star Trek franchise.

The PROPER question is WHY HASN’T SHE BEEN IN EVERYTHING BEFORE?

I currently live in China. And I have seen how much has changed in their entertainment industry to what it is today. If you ever saw Gremlins 2: The New Batch, there’s a scene with Robert Picardo’s character that can be paraphrased nicely to the current state of Chinese entertainment:

She’s everything everywhere all at once!

As a fan of the Hong Kong’s late 80s to 90s golden age of action cinema, I never would have predicted that Michelle Yeoh would have been the star to end up having the most vibrant, varied and exciting career in the U.S. Everyone was betting on Jackie Chan, Jet Li and then Donnie Yen. Boy were we all wrong, and the

Seriously. Getting into slap fights on the internet doesn’t rise to “Shit on obituary” levels. Sheesh.

honestly if that’s the worst she’s done, life well lived by a great.

That anecdote reminds me of an old quote of Dave Barry’s. “Someone who is nice to you, but not to the waiter, is not a nice person.” Glad to hear that wasn’t the case with her. RIP

I worked as an assistant at her publishing house around the same time and spent time shepherding her around New York when she came to town. She was extravangantly kind to me and everyone she interacted with. I have great memories of Anne Rice, RIP.

Back in the 90s, I was the book signing coordinator for a regional chain bookstore and Anne Rice was one of the people we got to come around the time that Memnoch the Devil was released. Most of the bigger name authors who came acted the part, not particularly friendly to (or even willing to acknowledge) our staff.

Live action rarely translates well from animated shows. Fan expectations should be adjusted accordingly and not expect perfection. Those folks are better off just rewatching the original anime.
