Question for everyone. I have read the books and enjoyed them greatly. I watched a couple of episodes during the first season and gave up because the plot was so different from the books.

Does the live-in girlfriend have a claim on the compensation provided by the government, that is a substitute for the miner's salary, while the miner is trapped underground and not being paid? Or should it go to his wife or to the child or all three of them or what? That's what they are…

@footnotegirl: Yup...they mentioned there were a few depressed miners in there. This guy has GOT to be one of them. Knowing that the world is watching you and you have created a huge embarrassing clusterfuck...not good for the chi.
