Another thing that isn’t often mentioned is that the race is starting at 10:00 PM local time, meaning that on the east coast the race will start at 1:00 AM! Apparently this is so that European fans can watch the race in the morning. But... wasn’t this all about increasing American viewership of F1? Absurd.

Yeah, it’s been the checklist for long enough now that I have it pretty well memorized. Put it to partial use over the weekend picking up a ratty Miata that needed to be trailered. Lot of rules carry over!

I don’t fly a lot in terms of flying for work, but at least 5 or 6 flights a year. I’m still surprised at how people think standing in the aisle with their bags waiting to get off before they even get the doors open helps anything.

Somehow, across six different boats and trailers I never managed to make sealed trailer lights a priority. Ridiculous. I always said “I’ll get them when these break” but somehow they never did before I ended up trading up/down a boat. 

Yup. And it’s easy to talk yourself into a bigger boat, which comes with even more work. Going to a 25 foot walk around cuddy fishing boat was a massive mistake which I still regret. Trailering it is a huge hassle. Launching/retrieving even more so. So then you pay to slip it. Which is expensive and comes with its own…

Unfortunately, a lot of hard lessons were learned to get me to the checklist I now have. 20 years of launching boats will humble the best of us.

Like everything else, launching boats takes practice. I think the biggest thing that causes these accidents is nerves causing people to forget the basics. I have a pretty solid checklist that I run through each time and it keeps me out of trouble. I also refuse to rush, no matter how busy the launch is. Rushing leads…
