On a daily basis, 500,000 people come into DC from the suburbs for work and another 500,000 residents move around inside DC for work. Today, those million people are largely staying home because: (1) it’s a DC holiday so they don’t have to go to work, (2) they don’t want to deal with the clusterfuck of closed streets…

I know everyone is unfollowing @potus as of today, but personally I intend to keep following just so I can tweet “thanks Obama” every time that sad sack takes credit for something that’s clearly the result of Obama’s hard work. Anything that hurts him is a good thing :)

I was there in 2013 and riding the trains to get to the mall was fucking nuts. We had two members of our group get lost for a time. All the bars and restaurants nearby were packed as fuck too.

Based on a representative sample of “people I personally know,” DC residents not only have the day off but got the hell out of town.

All federal workers in the DC metro area have the day off, so that’s part of it. But from what I remember 4 years ago, there were still tons of tourists around.
