I entirely agree with you, but most Dutch people LOVE Zwarte Piet. And they will tell you that he's a chimney sweep and that's why he's got the dark skin and afro. They don't see it as racist, even if you point out it's racist past or implications. Many will flat out refuse to even consider that it might be racist.

That's been going on forever. Plenty of classical music uses those chord progressions as well. Makes it kinda suck when you're a musician listening to a new piece of music or sight reading, and you hear that first chord hit and just *know* where it's going.
