it would make sense for it to work in the Wii U's Wii mode for Wii games. Some of those were compatible with gamecube controllers...

I've used the hydrogen peroxide/oxy + sunlight mix a couple of times with great success on a pair of PC Engine Duos and controllers. Grabbed the cheapest ones (really yellow) when in Tokyo a few years back and got them back to looking newish.
