I see what you did there.
I see what you did there.
I cannot share your sentiment. I live in Texas where we experience triple digit temps for over a hundred days some years. Me no likey the Summer.
YES!
Love the Swamp Donkey version.
Sorry. That last comment came off way more rude than it should have. My apologies. We disagree. No need for me to be nasty. Have a good one.
You can alter or cherry pick definitions if you want. Independent films can be blockbusters (Star Wars prequels). The truth is, your initial comment represents a broad generalization that simply does not hold up to scrutiny. It's not surprising that someone who sees things in such sweeping generalizations would also…
Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger, R.I.P.D., Abraham Lincon: Vampire Hunter, Battleship, Transformers and sequels, The Expendables (I and II), MIB 3, The Avengers, Pirates of the Caribbean Series, Cowboys and Aliens, Captain America, Thor, Attack the Block, Despicable Me, Predators, Scott Pilgrim, Piranha 3D, ad infinitum.
You misunderstand. The OP said, "Whimsy has no place in it [the age we're living in]". His position. Not mine. I maintain there's plenty of whimsy around, if that's what you're after.
I disagree. The problem I have with comments like these (or articles like these) is the hyperbole and sweeping generalizations involved. Things might be a bit more serious in this post-911 world, but to say there is no room for whimsy in the age we're living in is silly and untenable.
Conan the Barbarian was NOT campy. You are remembering it wrong or thinking of Conan the Destroyer.
Earth 2 and SeaQuest, in my humble opinion, were not B-TV. These shows took themselves and their premises seriously, and dealt with some pretty serious subject matter at times. Don't know about Sliders or Time Trax. Quantum Leap and Star Trek probably fit this model, though.
We do have both.
"It's the age we're living in.
Two things:
I'm fully aware of that.
Nothing you quoted here backs up the claim that Chinese audiences' waning interest in big-budget Western films is motivated by race or nationalism.
Jesus, I can't believe I have found people that actually agree with my view on this! Validation! :)
Jesus, did you read the article?
I wish that were true. If it were, The Avengers, Man of Steel, Wolverine, and others of their ilk would not have been the HUGE successes that they were.
Edge of Tomorrow was worth it for me. I saw Philomena in the theater, and it was excellent. Mud and Her were also worth the price of admission.
