Once again, Luke is spinning the details of the interview to make it seem like this is mandatory, there is a different interview the devs did at E3 where they mentioned all this is optional cause if it wasn't those who did not have online connections would be screwed
It's not necessary, there is actually a video interview where the guy discusses this and he never says you have to. He was directly asked if you had to do this and what would happen if you didn't have access to Online and he said "then you'll just play without the drivatar information"
