For what it's worth, it's only a ton of money on your hardware if you feel the need to keep up with the modding/Crysis crowd. I bought a mid-range graphics card nearly two years ago for about $80 and I've played Arkham Origins, Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, Saints Row IV, and plenty of other games at high graphics…
For a second there I thought "damn, Break must be a hell of a game"...

kids are in fact not getting dumber, see the kids that listened to a Judas Priest record backwards and then tried to kill themselves (one of them survived the shotgun blast and completely destroyed his face/skull)
Kids are getting smarter, or at least, they're getting more space to showcase their abilities. There are numerous examples of young teens and such, doing incredibly things academically.
If I make my wife laugh hard enough, she farts. That's how I know when it's good.

Windows 8 has the most robust collection of apps: Not all of Windows 8's apps are optimized for tablet usage, but with a keyboard and mouse connected, you could install Steam, download Bioshock Infinite and take on Comstock from your tablet. No other platform boasts that level of compatibility.
