As a Marylander, I wondered for a moment if I had missed that some computers had spice-filled drawers made to assist in steaming crabs. (and also why in the world you would use hem for hiding things rather than their clearly superior intended purpose)

It still *helps* to be an engineer, but a problem solving mindset - which is really what is required - is not unique to engineers. Sales and management are very, very different beasts from design. Because, let’s face it, unless there’s a culture that requires engineering (often because the founder/ceo is an engineer),

Patrick - any chance that link to the chart could be embedded with the image. There are 4-5 links in the article, and the one that goes with the image is the furthest removed from it (end of the story).

Prepping/moving things to the night before is like Daylight Saving Time. You’re not really getting any more efficient, you’re simply moving when you do things.

Nope, no lock code here. Way too fucking annoying, and I only open up my phone a dozen or two times a day. Hell, I have lastpass installed and I practically never use it because even the shortened password I added to it so that it was manageable on a touch screen is too god damned annoying. Plus I don’t want to be

Interesting that it’s not mentioned that wheeled luggage tends to be significantly heavier than unwheeled for the same packable volume. In a time of space and weight limits on airline baggage, and simply lugging it around (stairs and such), you’re adding several pounds to each bag to accommodate the wheels, handles

No, it’s considered a warning.

Waze is nice - and I use it for most routing - but it’s falling pretty far behind in the natural speech area. It also has torpedoed one of the best features - sharing your route status - by requiring that you allow the app to upload your entire contacts list and harass everyone in it about Waze just enable the feature

It is. However, it depends on the market. When I replaced my HVAC a decade ago, gas was $13/MMBTU ($1.30/therm) - that was pre-Marcellus Shale + fracking. Electricity was about 9c/kWh. My overall heat pump efficiency (HSPF) was 9.0 - aka 2.6 kW of heating for every kW of power used. You can see that, per million BTU

IIRC induction is ~85+% efficient, Electric eyelet ~55%, and gas about 30-35% efficient. Gas throws a lot of BTUs around the pan and into the air, which means it costs twice in the summer (if you use air conditioning). An electric kettle is very close to 100% efficient, but not practical for a pot of pasta.

Or, you know, get a better container. I heat seal bags shut and use Mason jars for the "everyday" brown sugar. It lasts at least 2 years this way (okay, several months in the jar - which is as long as it normally goes between fill-ups over the summer when it's not used much). Never gets too hard to easily crush with

The possibility of a twisted ankle or similar knee injury scares the shit out of me. Not because of the access or the pain, but because it would mean taking off time from running to heal. Having lost a year of swimming to a torn MCL and a year of golf to a SLAP (shoulder) injury it's a huge risk, imho.

I've always been surprised with Amazon comes up the cheapest. I know I'm paying either the typical street price (aka real retail price) or an inflated price (to cover part of the Prime shipping on small/cheap items). I just have to decide if it's worth it to pay retail in return for getting it in two days for no extra

"If you're primarily on the go with your laptop, and not connecting stuff to it, this is fantastic"

To be fair to Apple, that's one more than the design spec called for. They would have gone with zero ports, relying on wireless for everything, but because of Android's adoption of wireless charging a couple of years ago they've decided that it will be at least 2018 before they "invent" wireless charging for their

I had iPhones for years and a great phone was required for my jump to Android last summer. My wife just got a new iPhone last summer (so the 5s) and she always has me take pictures with my LG G3 because the photos turn out noticeably better from my phone. iPhones no longer have the corner on decent cameras.

It's last year, but you pretty much described the LG G3. (I don't know if the Verizon G3 will do AT&T LTE, I don't think the GSM versions will do CDMA LTE; Actually, I'm not sure of any model that does max speed LTE on both CDMA and GSM in all bands).
