See my problem is out of your six sentence reply only one of them actually talks about what your problem is with the video. A third of your response is "He's male, therefore, cannot understand."
If you didn't mean it why did you post it in the first place? You chose your words specifically, and quite frankly it was insulting. But if you want a response here it is.
Actually no, he started the conversation off by focusing on White Males, like it invalidated anything that the video said.
As the line "completely absurd arguments from a white male point of view made me ill" As in a white male has no say in this conversation because I don't want them to.
Nice try though.
You did miss the point. I was not advocating for (or against) Anita or Feminism at all...I was actually arguing against you directly for your white male shaming and furthermore requesting the silence of the white male voice. I was arguing that your statement advocates for the very thing you are against.
But aren't those history books also annals of unbelievable amounts of violence against men? torture, general violence, drafted into war, executed for perceived cowardice (which we now know was shell shock/ptsd) genital mutilation, I could go on.
The good old assertion that if you white and male you're privileged in western society....that is the most short sighted conclusion I have ever been privy to listening on the interwebz.
Really? We need more one sided discussions where one absolute authority dictates the narrative for everyone else? Man oh man what has this world come to when people are advocating for status quo politics to save us from status quo politics.
Yeah, white men have no right in having an opinion because they are the default opinion. Men must tremble in the wake of our vaginal fury!
Rule of thumb yeah I've heard that before although I'd recomend watching the whole video if you have time, it definitely goes against the grain of what we are generally taught about domestic violence. I would argue that violence against men, now and always is far more acceptable than violence against women, in short…
Patriarchal and matriarchal societies have always existed. But it's not really surprising that the matriarchal societies died out to such a large degree. Sending the women out to battle/fend/dangerous stuff while the men tend garden is a sure way to ensure the death of your culture.
For a long time it has been considered wrong to be violent against another man, but a man beating a woman was considered to be acceptable behavior.
"I watched this whole thing and the spurious, completely absurd arguments from a white male point of view made me ill."
The problem with your reasoning is that it's dismissing any counter points or debates you disagree with on a subject. I didn't watch that guy's video so I have no comment on how bad it may be, but dismissing the debate as not being worthwhile is counter productive. You can't have any serious discourse if you're going…
Well, there's a difference, I do agree with Sarkeesian on certain points, but with all due respect, most of the times she is doing nothing but complaining about gaming not featuring enough women, or portraying them in a misogynistic manner.
"historically what he has done" - that's the key point here, it's generalising those who were born into the life they have, it doesn't intrinsically mean that all white men are evil, kinda like how generalisations were made against blacks, asians etc.
So if a woman of color had made the same argument word for word, would you have a problem with it? Because I can totally go and get someone to do that if it make it more valid in your opinion.
So you're saying is that, if you're a white male, your opinion is irrelevant?
"white male point of view" because of-course, the white man just wants to keep everyone down. Booo to him!
I watched this whole thing and the spurious, completely absurd arguments from a white male point of view made me ill.
