Maybe if all the pearl-clutchers would get together and finally WRITE the fucking things down, we’d all be able to look at them, and see what actually would be considered a legit sportsmanship thing, and what’s a steaming pile of shit.  (Spoiler alert:  the latter group would be bigger.)

What’s excessive about any of those scenarios I named, including Acuña’s trot? It’d be different if he socked a dinger, pointed at Martinez, then yelled, “That’s what you get, bitch!” & started dancing on home plate before rounding the bases. Baseball is the only major sport where athletes lose their shit about other

“After hitting a three-pointer, he ran back too slowly on defense. I’m going to elbow him in the face after a rebound, you know, because of the disrespect.”

Better yet, every time someone gets a sack and runs 10 yards into the backfield posing or doing some type of signature move to celebrate, the QB and O-line don’t get their feelings hurt and start whining about being respected as veterans.

Agreed, and I had to read the first paragraph twice to make sure the “musty” comment wasn’t about his long single.  Because his teammates have a right to be livid with him over that stupid ish..

And as everyone knows, cricket has never had issues with bullshit displays of racism and classism under the guise of decorum.

Pitchers are the biggest babies in sports.

Are you high? Pitchers celebrate against hitters all the time. Fernando Rodney did his stupid Bow and Arrow bit for years. Dudes fist pump. Guys scream over simple strikeouts. The difference is when they do it and make the hitter feel bad, the hitter doesn’t get to whip his bat at them while they fill their diaper and

The last thing you should be worried about after letting up a massive dinger in an NLDS game is the speed of the batter’s trot. If you don’t want a guy to celebrate his home run, throw better pitches. Simple as that. You’d never see a DB saying, “I didn’t like the fact Julio spiked the ball then danced with his

This is easily the 5th time I’ve seen Acuña pimp a single. If you’re going to hop and take the slow trot, you better be DAMN sure you got it out.

Ok, but no celebrating doubles then either.

And if he didn’t bitch about his opponent celebrating after completely wrecking his offering, I’d say it’s fine and everybody can just do their thing.

Meanwhile Carlos Martinez celebrated after getting absolutely rocked in the 9th to the tune of 3 ER over two bombs. So...

Getting pissy because a base runner came too close to the mound after getting thrown out at first is fucking stupid, but I can empathize with the desire to plunk a guy who doesn’t make it out of the batter’s box before his home run hits the seats.

Okay, but who was mad the right way?

More to the point, I think respect and sportsmanship are important, but getting pissy about it if you don’t get the amount of respect YOU think you deserve is just as immature, if not more so. It’s like the boss who has to constantly remind everyone that he should be respected, which means he really deserves none.

I’m sure Acuña will agree to stop hot-dogging after he hits a home run if pitchers stop celebrating getting a strike out. Or any kind of an out. Next time a pitcher gets a big strike out, turns around a fist pumps, Acuña should charge the mound and beat him over the head with his bat.

But it turns out Acuña’s own teammates are mad at him over a completely different baserunning issue

I mean, if Acuna had pointed at Martinez and done the D-X crotch chop towards him, you might have a point. Taking an extra couple of seconds to admire the fact that you just hit a baseball halfway to the moon doesn’t exactly qualify as poor sportsmanship in my book.

+220, 221, whatever it takes.
