Remarkably good article; this is probably the most comprehensive look ever at the history of one our local tracks and remarkably well researched. I’ve been reading Jalopnik for 5 years and have a VERY diverse interest in automobiles but look forward to every article you write related to stock cars more than any before

The .512 lift 235 @ .050 duration cam roller cam and 750CFM mechanical secondary carburetor are a tie for my; they where both a little much for my mild small block but many through headers it sounded great!

You...you don’t actually think they use crude oil in jet planes...right?

Since the first (of a dozen or so times) I was rushed to the hospital for Kidney stones I don’t block anyone; I just assume anyone driving “like a jerk” has somewhere important to be and let them by. My self-satisfaction isn’t worth a complete stranger passing away in traffic because I decided it was my responsibility

This was in approximately ‘04 and we where towing our FSAE car to a dyno appointment early on a Saturday morning. We where late so I was doing roughly 80 in a 70 in the right lane of San Antonio’s big outer loop with very light traffic. I pulled out into the left lane to pass a car with no one behind me for a fair

Yea; CC was a lot of fun but it was a rough little track. I grew up and live in SA but we used to go to CC Speedway whenever we where on the coast for vacation and occasionally when SAS wasn’t running we’d make the 3 hour one way trip down just to watch racing for the night. I cherish memories of my sister, an old

Yea; on THR/CTS the previous promoter basically sunk the track to support his son’s Camping World Truck Series team. Closing a track a few months before opening for the next season with no notice put people around here in a huge crunch but it’s actually helped create interest about getting some of the other shuttered

Alanis King; I grew up going to San Antonio Speedway (currently defunct but I’m working with an individual on re-opening it), Thunderhill Raceway (currently closed) and Corpus Christi Speedway (closed) among others and would love to see a story on Longhorn! I’m not sure if you’re familiar with it but circle track

I have the Texas solution to that problem; in my business I trailer cars often so my daily is an older 3/4 Chevy pickup. The truck has 240k miles on and I love it to death but my dented chrome bumpers give no fucks.

HA! Fair enough chief, then carry on!

When the article clearly alludes to the kid not being his why would you assume so? Also, plenty of young parents are perfectly responsible and able to tend to themselves and their children. Don’t let your prejudices about someone else’s way of life color your opinions so much.

This is how I’ve become since having my kid; I used to let my temper get the best of me on occasion but now I try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they’re on the way to the hospital, maybe their spouse is in an emergency situation and needs their help, maybe they’re having a shitty day and taking it

We have 14 science departments? Maybe we could use one less?

I’ve got a few; y’all can choose which you like best!

I went to school in a little town just north of San Antonio and as you can imagine the lot was full of trucks BUT being that we drew from a lot of well-off neighborhoods there where always some interesting cars. My buddies and I where all old car guys; a ‘64 Dart with a built Slant-6, a ‘65 Mustang with a badass 289

Umm...NO! Acura TL’s smoke, they all smoke when cold and some smoke all the time. I just rid myself of one I had to source a used head for because it tore the valve guide out of the head (ruining the head) and wasn’t fixable, it smoked A LOT. On the Type-S the exhaust manifold is cast into the head they’re a bitch to

I’m relatively conservative and that is still funny as can be.

It would be impossible for me to agree any more, very well said. I am a huge TopGear fan and have been watching it for almost a decade; I still re-watch all the seasons once every couple of years. I GET Grand Tour; it isn’t supposed to “be” anything besides funny and cars and edgy which it is.

You ever lived in an area where it is 5 hours between towns and you can go 2 hour of those without seeing another car? No?

Do a little research on MotoRex.
