The ship was always assumed to be FTL capable. Shaw made the choice to take it to the Engineers’ homeworld instead of Earth because her need for answers outweighed all other considerations. She wasn’t going to get those answers on Earth.

I would have to rewatch, but did Shaw ever learn that David was responsible for all that? From her perspective it would be far more logical to assume Weyland was responsible.

My theory is that she will become the embodiment of the non-superpowered hero archetype, like Dunn is for the superhuman ones.
