This is beginning to goat out of hand.
A goat on a navy cruiser? Surely you’re kidding us.
This is the best example. Time travel as portrayed in science fiction will never happen. The future is as immutable as the past, we are already time travellers in that we’ve all already been to the past and are in the process of discovering the future.
Basically, the idea is that the way transporters would work is that every piece of information about you, including the particles, their spin, their location, etc. is scanned and sent to the transport location. The original is then destroyed and a fully 100% accurate duplicate is made on the other end with all the…
That’s what’s always bothered me with this tech. I mean, the concern was even mentioned in canon (Bones?). You’re essentially replicating a perfect copy of the original, which is destroyed at the source. That’s highly highly disturbing to me.
Time travel. I don’t expect we’ll ever go back in time. I know many scientists think it’s impossible. I also think the ethical implications/possibilities would make time travel a very bad idea if it WAS possible.
Evidence please? I see this assertion about Star Trek transporters a lot, and no one has proven that the show establishes this is how they work.
Star Trek style teleporters. For all the the issues with them not being able to work without teleportation pads on both sides the biggest issue for anyone using them would be the fact that each time you use one it KILLS YOU and replaces you with a duplicate on the other side.
I’ll translate, because it’s somewhat hilarious (and I’m Chilean). The guy is saying:
(0:00) “Llanquihue National Reserve, Las Cascadas (Waterfalls) Sector.”
(0:12) “Few people come here. I was brave and adventurous.”
(0:20)“Beautiful. There’s the volcano in the back -”**Calbuco erupts** “ -wow...”
(0:34)…
I should have been clearer: the park practices a finders, keepers policy.
Itd be genius if that pic is a joke to make ppl go insane!
Evening Shade (!) resident Susie Clark was visiting Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas when…
Damage control mod right now. $.49 cents.
This episode is a big reason DS9 is my favorite Next Gen series. The whole series took a look “behind the curtain” of the Federation paradise to get a look at some of the less than idea things that made it possible - Section 31, taking down rogue admirals, handling religious and political factions who were trying to…
I actually always heard that line as read with little-to-no regret, at least in the last instance. He's not trying to convince himself or us. It's not a question for him anymore. It's more of a realization. It's almost an announcement. "I think I can live with that."
But with all the differences in Mirror Mirror there’s still a lot of similarities - Kirk is still in command, Spock is still logical etc. So that would seem to prove the point that is not nature vs nurture but a convergence of nature and nature that determines one’s personality.
You just have to love that last bit of Sisko going “I think I can live with it. I can” and it’s so obvious he’s trying to convince himself more than us.
Philosophers, scientists and metaphysicians have spent thousands of years trying to untangle the mysteries of human…
