Disrupting passenger rail thru NY would certainly be a huge regional headache for the tens of thousands of commuters who depend on it, but they’d find alternative means soon enough, painful as that would be. If these tunnels are so important, then the surrounding states…

The MTA has neglected basic maintenance for decades. NY and NJ are some of the richest parts of the country; why the heck should the federal government pick up the tab for a 30 billion dollar tunnel?

It’s your regions infrastructure, your region is responsible for investing in and maintaining it.

Free market means they’re free to not do it also. I don’t drive for Uber, because I chose not to.
