@Paul Y: People still buy trucks like that here in Alabama, and they use them. You can get a no-option bare bones truck at the dealerships here (well, the dealerships away from the city).

You can buy a brand new Ford, Chevy, or Dodge with vinyl seats, rubber floors, roll-ups, and AM/FM.

@commander205: Nope. No more open containers here in Alabama! I've been here for 9 years now, and it's been against the law at least that long.

I'm pretty sure Tennessee no longer allows open containers in a vehicle.

You have to remove the entire cab of these trucks to do any type of major engine work. I'm not sure exactly what kind of work that includes, but we have received bulletins here at work showing these things in the shop with the cab on a hoist and the chassis on the ground. We're having to design special bulkheads so
