Rory is OK. She means well, and she’s a kid for most of the series, and makes typical boneheaded young adult mistakes later on. And Lorelai means well too, but Lorelai is sometimes more consumed by her obsession with distancing herself from her mother, than she is with other people’s feelings.

Not movies, but Monica from Friends. She is ambitious, and fastidious about her work, and frequently the target of jokes because she prefers to live like a grownup.

Alan Ball ripped Six Feet Under off from a female screenwriter. Of course, he is Alan Ball, and she was just some unknown woman, so when she sued him she lost.

Totally! Poor girl is treated like an inconvenience by her parents, while her slacker brother is anointed king.

Haha! I watch Gilmore Girls reruns and sometimes I REALLY sympathize with Emily.

Wow! What a couple of terrific human beings. Glad they stood up for you. And “partying in Heaven on endless beaches?” Sounds like Hawaii ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. That is bonkers though.

That is wonderful!

I feel very lucky. I think it helps a bit that we are the same age (late 40s, which would make us early Gen Xers), and both of us are very intolerant of sexism.

Caitlyn may have transitioned, but she is still a dumb jock.

So I left my job last week for what I think will be a terrific professional opportunity. I have had some good bosses in my life, but this is the first boss that I will truly miss. She was amazing. Didn’t have enough work to justify hiring me full-time, and I needed a full-time job. But she made my transition back into

I second this. I grew up in a very white, middle class (or “upper working class”- plumber and contractor types who are fairly well off financially) CT suburb, where people are so insular, they start twitching as they approach the town line. The school system also did a shitty job of teaching about race and gender

Every time I have seen a drag queen, either on television or in person, the misogyny is blatant. It is as though my gender is a punchline to some stupid, overplayed joke. In my opinion, there is no way to make that OK. Sorrynotsorry if that offends those that view mocking women as some kind of “art.”

That and if you have actual cis or trans women involved, then the female gender ceases to be the punchline for the joke.

Again, I stand corrected. However, my overall point (which I think is in agreement with you) was that the lack of a conviction should not translate into “he’s innocent, and let’s pretend like he isn’t an abuser and give him an award.”

You are right. I stand corrected. With the passage of time, I had forgotten that the DA dismissed the case entirely, so it never even got to a jury. Essentially, one person decided that this case was too much work.

The only Jim Carrey movie that I even came close to liking was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And that was because his stupid facial gymnastics were kept to a minimum. He sucks.

I thought Get Out was a great movie, but I thought that it reminded me a bit too much of The Stepford Wives to be considered truly “innovative.” Even so, it was well written, very well acted, and just an overall great movie.

The standard for criminal conviction is guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That is a high standard, and it should be, because the consequence is loss of freedom.

Agreed. I am a big believer in intersectional feminism, but we have to recognize that oppression of women is intersectional too.

Thanks. That was my favorite line from my favorite movie of all time.
