It needs to be something that doesn't require talent. And on such small scales, vibrating at molecular speeds, it would probably be high-pitched. So Justin Bieber would be a more appropriate choice.

I think it'd be more like...um...silence. The sound of silence :D .
Don't shoot me! I'm just a lowly primate ;P
True. But I don't know what sound a strand of noncoding RNA makes ;P .
Actually, I went to a private high school and am currently attending a private university. Like I said, my comment was just me being silly.
I like :) . Before I read the article, I thought, "It's not the final expression, but the movements used to generate it, that makes it seem realistic or not." Then I watched the video and read the article and saw that's EXACTLY what this is :P .
They're geneticists. They should be studying the evolved DNA, not the brains! Leave that to the neuroscientists! :D
Ooh ooh aah aah, me still ape ancestor, me still in trees, ooh ooh aah aah.
I suppose. But doesn't FACS require a camera to capture the refracted/reflected light for processing? So a much faster camera would mean faster sorting ability?
So...they took an existing tablet, with an existing OS, and bundled it with existing Christian-based apps and settings...and they charge $20 extra for it? Hm. I think there's something in the Bible about not stealing, but I can't be sure...
You mean "open" doesn't mean "free"? Well, darn. Guess I can't afford it.
I'm a 5'7", 120 lbs, 21 year old male. I'm underweight. As far as I know, I'm also in perfect health (not in shape, but that's an irrelevant consequence of my lack of exercise ever). Hopefully, I'm an anomaly.
While I get all the security concerns, the nerd in my is extremely excited about the technology. The principles behind spectroscopy have been well-established for a long time. When I first read this, though, I thought, "But how the hell can it do it from 50 meters away?! So much interference!" As I thought about it…
Isn't that what a FACS machine is for? To do that analysis and sort the cells into healthy and possibly malignant, automatically? Sounds to me like this is just a faster way to perform FACS.
"Heads it's Higgs, tails it's a tale!"
I'd love to see a near-100% effective sunburn prevention method. I recently got sunburned twice in one week, both times down to crispy skin, and looked like a freaking molting snake for weeks as it peeled. The pain was bad, but the itching was worse. And the second time I got burned, I was using SPF100 spray (I just…
Coolio. But evolution. Otherwise, coolio.
Being too lazy to click through to the source, does anyone mind telling me what the peak output is on this thing?
On the contrary. The idea I had was already being considered. The ideas they had were one-of-a-kind at the time. They're much smarter than I :) .
If light of the right frequency hits metal, it emits electrons. In other words, all you need is metal and light. Light is natural; tell me how recent of an "invention" metal is again?
