“It’s Worth Noting That I Helped Engineer The 2018 Jeep Wrangler”
- Drive my 4 cyl jeep for, what, 12 years to break even on the $1K up front premium? While living with the same stigma every 4 cylinder Wrangler has endured? Nope, no thanks....
I can tell you me 91 4.0 5 speed never got close to 24.
The head issue in the pentastar motor should not have happened but I’ve yet to hear of any that were not replaced under warranty. At this point it has been used in minivans and livery vehicles for 8 years. If they can handle that, they will be just fine in a wrangler which tend to be well maintained mechanically
Right after I bought my JK, I got the ultimate Jeep accessory: an economy hatchback that I would use for commuting/longer drives. I really do pity the fools that daily drive their Wranglers. It’s fantastic fun to drive around town and off-road, but it’s loud, uncomfortable and (obviously) uneconomical on the freeway.…
sure it does! The 3.6 is also the tried and true engine. Its survived in minivans and livery vehicles, it will be just fine in a jeep and it will last well into the future
Since the efficient 4cyl turbo needs premium, the annual fuel cost vs the 6cl is nearly the same. ($50 per year difference) This totally wipes out the incentive to spend extra $1000 for the 4cyl engine, essentially taking 20 years to pay off.
Soon enough gasoline will be illegal in California. Surely that will put a dent in your livability column.
To be far almost all those places are the UK, USA and their respective territories with a few former territories thrown in.
Since it’s a turbo, if you drive it with any spirit whatsoever, it will still probably kill your wallet. And now you’re also shelling out for Premium. Rather see a lower-than-3.6L displacement V6 in this kind of auto than another. damn. 2 liter. turbo.
you don’t want to give any high schooler mobile bed without at least several boxes of condoms. A car with no back seat is the safest way to go.
It did. No driver necessary to kill the pedestrian.
I dug into this a while ago (when the rule was announced), but essentially, it’s more than that because the camera and associate electronics have a wider operating temperature (165C spread, rather than 85C), and therefore cost more than what you get in a pen camera or cell phone. Additionally, they are part of the…
Yep. I put one in my Wrangler because there was zero visibility behind the spare. Now I can look out the left mirror, right mirror, through the rearview at the sky, and then check the camera to see the child that is standing directly behind me..
Still plenty of current model low end cars that do not have screens. Are there were. So now all the cars have to have an LCD upgrade and a camera. This is not a trivial increase. And whatever it costs them will cost us 10x as much.
So true! My parking garage is filled with pickups that back in to spots. If I park head first between them I can only see straight back until I am halfway out of the spot and then I get some side visibility. But the backup camera with Subaru’s side traffic alert lets me see so much more. I still use the mirrors and…
We’re still paying extra for it. It’s just included in the base price of the vehicle now.
