Colin McRae did himself in, along with his son, son’s best friend, and the bf’s father. He was not current on his license. Schedule maintenance wasn’t performed. He was also pushing the limits of the helicopter and ran out of air. Basically everything you are not supposed to do, he did.

F1 was designed as a road car with no intentions of ever racing it, until a customer paid the R&D to make it into a race car. But it did have a lot of compromises since they didn’t hit a few of their design goals.
