My wife works for a civil engineering firm. Civil engineers build targets, airports, buildings, bridges, roads, dams, etc. The professions you listed that have PE’s are all related to civil engineering.

And they all work in civil engineering.

Only Professional Engineers (PE) are licensed. They submit plans to the government for review. Everyone else is just an engineer. This is mainly for civil engineers and the handful of mechanical engineers that go into HVAC.

You can use the title of engineer without passing a state licensing exam. Heck, I’m a engineer. I have a diploma that says it. Do I need to be licensed? Nope, not in my industry.
