They were hardcore. Now completely controlled by lawyers. The first test pilot on the X-29 forward swept wing was pulled off the program in the beginning because he did a barrel roll before the plane was cleared for that profile.

It’s talked about in the McLaren F1 book, Driving Ambition, though no pictures.

The octagonal building at the end looks like it was added on. The distance from the pad to the L shaped building is 50 yards.

You are forgetting that Gordon Murray put fans in the diffuser of the McLaren F1 road car. They were removed on the LeMans race cars because they were illegal.

Probably the only way he will win the championship.

Interesting. We usually build our trim tools using the same material as the part that’s being trimmed so that they would have the same thermal expansion rate.

You guys are doing it the hard way. This is what we do in aviation. If you choose to do solder joints, use M83519/1 series solder splices, the TE (formerly Tyco Electronics) equivalent is their S01-03-R series. They are about a buck, less if you order high quantities. Basically strip about 1/4" off both ends. Stick it

What, you didn’t know Chinese people were racist? How many Chinese / black interracial couples exist in China? Doesn’t happen.

They didn’t fly 6,000 km in the wrong direction. Nowhere is that said in the report. They took off from Sydney, started turning in the wrong direction, ATC corrected them, they try to sort out the problem, decided to land back at Sydney, got diverted to Melbourne due to weather. They flew 1 hour 54 minutes, about 450

He needs to get together with Martin Ashton.

The title is incorrect. Had he run out of fuel at just the right time, he would have ran out of fuel right as he came to a stop.

Some guys really know how to set up a car. JB is one of them. That’s probably why they don’t want to give him up.

They were going for the speed record. Not often you have 3 pro riders on a triple tandem.

I don’t think power meters affect racing as much as radios. Greg LeMond first used one at the Tour du Pont because it was more energy efficient to have discussions instead of going back to the team car. Now guys are almost brainless and are told exactly what to do and when to do it. The riders argue they need the

I’ve raced since the early 90's, I will be the first to say, I turned down every offer from friends to go watch a road race. It’s fun to be in them, but boring to stand on the side of the road for hours to see them go by for 20 seconds.

Unfortunately, most of the ride was into the wind or a crosswind so you were riding at like 8 mph.

Not really. Back when I was young and stupid, I would have passed those cars even on the double yellow. There are long descents like the bottom half of Mt. Baldy road in Los Angeles where you are going 40+ mph on a pretty much straight road all the way down for about 15 minutes. A single bike will top out around 53-53

Fastest crash I’ve been in was over 40 mph on a downhill descent in the middle of a corner. You end up sliding pretty far especially on the gravel that ended up on the road from cars dropping a wheel off the edge of the road. Had road rash on one leg and both forearms.

I’ve done 40+ on a flat with a 30 mph tail wind and riding in a paceline.

Actually crashing at 10 mph hurts a lot more than crashing at 40 mph in my experience. Slow speed crashes is more like a thud. High speed crashes into the ground, you tend to skip and roll, though you do have more road rash.
