I would like to Nominate the Ford Model T. At $290 in 1920 (Thats $3600 appx today, adjusted for inflation), one could purchase a 2-Door Roadster model and if the thrill of speed was what one was after, you could achieve a heady 45mph. Everything is relative. 45mph is exceptional when one is used to walking everywhere.

Seconded. Compare it to the Aston DB5 which retailed at about £4500 (about $12800) and if we examine the gorgeous BMW 507, which was out of production by '61 but had sold for about $10000 when it was available (I believe till '59-60?).
