I’m imagining a distopia, where all art is AI. There is no human-generated art, so AI has to scrape images from other AI. It gets worse and worse until eventually, all AI generated images are just crabs.

Recycling the exact same argument you clowns used for NFT’s two years ago, I see. Well, I guess if you guys were capable of coming up with new ideas, you wouldn’t need AI.

Not only are they willing to put out poor quality art just to save a few pennies, but they won’t even take the ten minutes or so to review the results before posting them. Their stupidity would be hilarious if they weren’t the ones steering the ship.

That’s what shows how these companies view this. If they’ll use AI for this, rather than hire an actual artist who wouldn’t let this shoddy crap slip by, just think of the garbage they’ll generate for bigger projects.

Funny to use AI on something so simple to draw.

Nice.

Yeah I call BS on that, the laws protect you from this type of behaviour and Valve would open themselves up for all kinds of legal trouble if they charged more than what was intended. So either you’re lying or you’re leaving some details out.

In my headcanon, I am imagining Gabe Newell personally seeing that post, and adding that point himself, without anyone else at Valve involed.

Praise Gabben

Nice!

Very nice of them

The Witcher 3 will be 9 next year...

Aside from Dragon Quest which has been a reliable seller in Japan (And those ports you referenced barely made it stateside), and Undertale which is... Its own thing. Almost everything you listed was either incredibly niche or an outright flop.

I mean acting like 2017 was the first time game companies tried to get rid of turn based games seems odd. JRPGs come in waves. For a few years people get tired of them and they fall out of favor and then in a few more years people miss them and one hit hard and reminds people what they love. It may be the difference

Not really. A “ticking clock” is not the same as making deliberate decisions about what to do with each day visual novel style. There’s no clocking ticking as you take however long you want exploring all the possible options open to you before deciding on what to do to pass the time. Spend time with someone or upgrade

I’m honestly a little flabbergasted that somebody could talk about the state of turn-based RPGs in 2017 and not even mention Dragon Quest XI.

...realizing Persona 5 is already six years old...

As a lifelong fan of turn-based JRPGs, there was a point where the future of turn based JRPGs looked pretty grim. It was definitely being phased out and it was starting to feel like Pokemon was the only mainstream presence keeping it relevant in the West.

I think this is the matter of a (increasingly sensationalist) website reporting form another website parsing legalese across 2 countries.

Pretty much. The idea that “it’s just hacking” is short-sighted and foolish when we live in a society where connected systems can literally be life-or-death affairs. Yeah, this time he hacked R* this time - but what if it had been a hospital? If he’s not capable of remorse and exhibited violence in custody, he’s a
